Arrows and Accolades

Logic Will Break Your Heart

As anyone who knows me can attest; I have a strong passion for Montreal-based alt/rock band, The Stills.

The Stills have always been one those bands that I can listen to on a loop and never get old.

The band broke out in 2005 with the strong release of Logic Will Break Your Heart. Their second album, while being a bit of a departure from their original sound didn't establish them as a prominent Canadian band. However, after opening for Paul McCartney in 2008 and the release of their best-received and most commercial EP, Oceans Will Rise, The Stills have secured themselves a spot among the best Canada has to offer.

The Stills are in Ottawa on Saturday, January 31st opening for Sam Roberts at the Bronson Centre.

Be sure to watch for my review of the show early next week.

Standing Under the Bar lights

The Airborne Toxic Event is an American indie rock band from Los Angeles. The band consists of singer and guitarist Mikel Jollett, guitarist and keyboardist Steven Chen, bassist Noah Harmon, drummer Daren Taylor, and keyboardist and violist Anna Bulbrook. Named after a section of the book White Noise, by Don DeLillo, the group incorporates string instruments and keyboards, along with a standard rock lineup of guitar, drums, and bass guitar. A great mix of sounds and passionate lyrics.

The inspiration for this album came as Jollett was in the middle of writing a novel. As he read the words on the pages he realized that his work would be better suited as a rock album. You can tell from the poetry of his lyrics that he has a way with words.

Give them a listen and check them out when they come to Ottawa March 5th at Zaphods.

All the Promises I Could Make

Take a listen to the Evacuate by the London-based band, The Boxer Rebellion.

They've been writing music and releasing tracks since 2001. Hopefully this new single will provide them some major coverage that they haven't yet had in North America.
